A Fun Key Idea

Following recommendations of The Self-Education Manual leads to a “Y” in the road. Taking the best fork in the road frequently leads to success; whereas, taking the other, lesser, fork can lead to giving up trying. This best fork tends to jump out at you, as you look for a fun key idea that might work. You can be in danger of allowing the lesser fork by skipping this step. On the lesser way, you risk becoming bored with pedantic details. Both forks go through the essential details. But the best fork is happy and relatively pain free.

So, as soon as possible, when learning something, jot down a summary of your fun key idea. Then, keep it in mind as you proceed. For example, on Pages 79 and 80, we try to learn the list of names of the seven countries of Central America. The fun key idea is: make a vivid mental image involving intriguing concepts. Another example is on Pages 63 and 64, where we attempt to learn two formulas. The fun key idea is: use an amusing means for noticing differences of one formula from the other. The lesser fork lacks the jubilation which goes with a winning attitude.
