Two study methods have been scientifically shown to work for learners as young as two years old. We call these two methods delayed testing and practice testing. Examples include using flashcards and practice quizzes. Of course, two-year olds, and older people who have compromised thinking capacity, need mentors to choose for them what objects they should learn. The study methods of The Self-Education Manual and the Getting Started workbook are presented at a ninth-grade reading level, so mentors, such as parents and teachers are needed to help guide reading-challenged learners.
Therefore, elementary school children and middle school students need the assistance of mentors, both to learn their schoolwork, and to learn how to help teach themselves. Teachers can be effective by using the Workbook from the perspective of the student to help them to learn and to develop the skills for teaching themselves. Accordingly, we recommend guiding the students, either orally or through writing assignments, to complete sections of the workbook template.
As students gain proficiency with the SEM Learning Tool Kit, they are gaining life-long skills to continue learning on their own. Also, an increase in self-confidence and efficacy of study should appear.
