SEM Offers an Invention for Independent Study

Something new is here. Will the SEM learning system help you? Here is what it does. It develops an effective learning plan, or list of study methods, which offers solutions to the following needed measures to be taken:

  1. Clearing: Clearing up confusion to enable understanding
  2. Focusing: Focusing by means of learning objects when none has been provided by a teacher or mentor
  3. Constructing: Constructing ways to remember learning objects
  4. Training: Training memory
  5. Applying: Applying the learning objects to approach mastery

When and How

  • A learner needs to know not just scientifically proven study methods, but also when and how to use those study methods.

Effectiveness

  • Confidence in its effectiveness comes from experimental proof.

Trainability

  • Training to use these concepts is doable for you.

Multiple Study Methods

  • Since an individual study method frequently purposes to take one specific measure toward learning, other study methods are needful to accomplish the additional required measures. Therefore, typically a half-dozen or more study methods are necessary for mastery of each learning object.
  • Choosing study methods involves working through steps (see 1-5). More than one method on a given step allows more than one approach to accomplish that step.
  • Having multiple ways to recall information acts as a backup plan, in case one way to remember is forgotten.

Flexibility

  • The Learning Tool Kit comprises guidelines to choose study methods for a learning plan.
  • When familiarity with study methods and their use gives the learner insight into what may be an appropriate choice for a particular learning object, and when either the Decision Tree or the Flowchart does not naturally reach that method, one can find the method on the Flowchart and work backwards through the choices to find a route which does work. This fine tuning allows exceptions to be neatly handled, so that the Tool Kit is flexible and workable.
