Revolutionizing Education

Here is an idea which could make American education better. My book and accompanying workbook show how tested study methods can be used. Starting with each selected learning object, teachers can employ these tools to create a list of appropriately sequenced learning methods. Students can use the tools also to help teach themselves.

Learning, similar to swimming, is an acquired skill. You can achieve success with it.

Now a retired teacher, I originally decided to enter the field after a comment from a student. While I was the driver of a school bus, a ninth-grade student asked me whether I would rather be an astronaut or a teacher. Before answering, I compared my own interests with the greater good and answered “Teacher.”

My research about this information started when a medical condition in 2015 prevented me from attending university physics classes. What I learned helped me; and, it can help others learn also. Beneficiaries include young learners or adults and their mentors or teachers for elementary school, middle school, high school and college.

In April of 2024, I released The Self-Education Manual and its companion workbook simultaneously. The years between 2015 and 2020 allowed time for ideas to percolate and be applied. Then I commenced writing the book during the Covid-19 lockdowns.

In the manual and workbook, examples illustrate sixteen study methods. A systematic procedure is provided for selecting study methods in logical order. A unique tailoring of study plans for individual attitudes and aptitudes is enabled by answering questions in a simple decision tree.

The Self-Education Manual has garnered several awards. The Pinnacle Book Achievement Award for 2024 represents one of them. Another was the Readers’ Favorite Five Star Review Award for 2024. And, yet another was the Literary Titan Four Stars Silver Book Award for 2024.
