Applying SEM study methods to increase motivation
Awaking from a dream on the morning of November 29, 2024, I contemplated the possible meaning and message of the dream. I dreamed I was a teacher between classes. Another teacher was relieving me to teach in my classroom. We were discussing illustrations displayed on the walls, when I became aware of something. I burst with, “We don’t have a plan.”
Pondering led me to wonder about applying SEM study methods to becoming more productive. My writer’s block ,or spate of unproductivity, needed a shot of B-12 in the arm for the sake of my readers. Why should their needs wait on me? So, I contemplated a high priority item on my agenda, which had not progressed lately to my satisfaction. I thought, “I know a SEM study method for motivation. It is called Pre-Writing.”
In this study method, one counters apathy and lethargy and the reluctance that results from cognitive dissonance (contrary thinking that blocks thinking) by writing about the subject you want to pursue and what it means to your life. In effect, it is as if you are writing the answer to the question, “Why is this subject important enough to devote some of my time to it?”
If the answer is not convincing, skip it. If, on the other hand, the answer is convincing, then the investment of time is worth it, and the resulting new-found commitment will withstand the temptations offered by would-be distractions.
